Reading Intervention at SFA

reading intervention

Some students need extra support when conquering important reading and comprehension skills. In K-3, all students are screened to ensure sufficient growth in their literacy skills. The Reading Intervention Team establishes an intervention for those who are having trouble keeping up with grade-level expectations.

Once a need is recognized, the student is placed into a small group to reinforce decoding and comprehension skills to help close any gaps the child has in proficient reading.

A growth mindset is at the heart of SFA's reading intervention: all children can be successful and enthusiastic readers- some only require a more individualized approach. The reading team works closely with classroom teachers to help them plan differentiated ELA lessons. They regularly meet with the students in small groups to reteach and practice decoding and comprehension skills.
