Early Intervention at SFA

reading intervention

Some students require additional support when developing important reading and comprehension skills. In K-3, all students are screened to ensure sufficient growth in their literacy skills. The Reading Intervention Team establishes interventions for students who are struggling to meet grade-level expectations.

Once a need is recognized, the student is placed in a small group to reinforce decoding and comprehension skills, helping to close any gaps the child may have in proficient reading.

A growth mindset is at the heart of SFA's reading intervention: all children can be successful and enthusiastic readers- some only require a more individualized approach. The reading team works closely with classroom teachers to help them plan differentiated ELA lessons. They regularly meet with the students in small groups to reteach and practice decoding and comprehension skills.

Julie Bingham

Mrs. Julie Bingham (Learning Specialist)

As the Learning Specialist, I work with students of various grade levels during their Language Arts and Math classes. I collaborate with teachers to tailor learning to students' strengths, needs, and interests. Learners receive daily support to achieve the highest possible standards and acquire the skills necessary for success. I help to provide flexibility in the pace of instruction based on the individual learner's needs, allowing them to speed up or take extra time. It is my hope and goal to unlock the full potential of every student.
