Technology at SFA

We are blessed at SFA to be able to expose our students to many different types of technology, from iPads to Chromebooks to Desktop and laptop PCs. Each technology has a place in our students' learning.

Computers and Devices

  • Our Preschool uses the iPad and the iPad Mini.

  • Our K-2 students use 1:1 iPads for technology and classroom work.

  • Our 3-5 & Middle School students use 1:1 touch screen Chromebooks.

    • 3-5 use their Chromebooks daily and store them in a charging cart at SFA.

    • The Middle School students use their Chromebooks in class and take them home each night.

  • K-8 teachers use Google Classroom as the SFA schoolwide Learning Management System for assignments, announcements, and information posting for their classes. The students use Google Workspace for Education Apps for their work (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides).

  • We use Kindle Fire tablets in our Project Lead the Way App Creator course.

Classroom Technology

  • Each SFA PK-8 classroom is equipped with either an Interactive Whiteboard, Projector, or Smart TV, as well as document cameras.   This technology allows our teachers and instructional aides to use various teaching methods to keep students engaged.

Learning Suites and Labs

We have multiple learning suites & labs at SFA to facilitate the class, curriculum, and student needs.

  • Science Lab - Our Science Lab is primarily used by our Middle School to bring the concepts taught in the classroom to life.  Our experiments range from energy to biology to physics and engineering.

  • Early Childhood Learning Lab -(also known as the Sensory Lab) This space is primarily for our Preschool, Pre-K, and early Primary students.  This space was designed with our youngest students in mind with Sensory Equipment to help students with stress and coping issues.

  • STREAM Lab - Our STREAM Lab houses our 3D Printer, and is the home for our drone "the Flying Panther", a variety of robots, iPads,  Android Tablet devices, and computers to allow ideas to grow.  The STREAM Lab is the home of the SFA STEM Club (an After-care club).  The STREAM Lab has Alternative Seating (wobble stools, standing desks, group tables) to allow students to find a spot that promotes their learning.  SFA conducts courses in digital fabrication with glow Forge-layer cutters, 3D printers, and large format printers.  We use a variety of robots from Code & Go Mice, Dash and Dot, Ozobots, Sphero Indi & Bolt, Vex IQs, LEGO EV3 MindStorms, LEGO Spike Prime (as part of the Clavius Project @ SLUH), and Mini Robotic Arms.

  • Learning Suites—Our Learning Suites are super-sized classrooms. Each Suite has various technology, flexible seating, and materials to allow the teachers, instructional aides, and students to be flexible in their approach to our students' learning.

  • Reading Lab—The Reading Lab is a Learning space staffed by our Reading Specialists and Early Interventionists. SFA uses the Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) and Benchmark Assessment system.

  • SFA Learning Commons -   The Commons is a large meeting space that can be converted for multiple uses depending upon the class's needs.  This space is also used as the home base for our after-school program.
