Our Faith and Franciscan Charism

SFA Mission

In keeping with the Franciscan tradition of intellectual inquiry and spirituality, St. Francis of Assisi School is committed to academic excellence and continuous growth in the Catholic faith.

SFA Philosophy

Franciscan education is incarnational. Like St. Francis of Assisi, we believe that the Creator is found in all creation and that Jesus, most present in the Eucharist, is the way, the truth, and the light.

Franciscan education is personal. Like St. Francis's focus on the relationship with all of creation, Franciscan education is based on the love of the human person and reverence for his or her God-given dignity. We value each individual as a gift.

Franciscan education is communal. St. Francis chose to live in the world as a brother to all. We believe that individuals are not only encouraged to grow in faith and knowledge but are also called to support the growth of one another. Common worship and collaborative learning within a community of shared values prepare students to take their place in a global society.

Franciscan education is transformative. Catholics believe that religious faith and practices lead to the human transformation of heart, mind, attitudes, and behaviors. For St. Francis, this was what "penance" was about—becoming the best version of oneself. We are committed to the belief that learning and formation are ongoing and transformative.

Franciscan education engages the heart. St. Francis was both passionate and compassionate, and his emotions were evident in his writings. We emphasize interpersonal skills as well as intellectual skills. We encourage passion for one's studies and passion for one's neighbor in need.

Franciscan education develops servant leaders. St. Francis modeled servant leadership. Catholic education is a privilege, not an entitlement, to those of St. Francis of Assisi School. With such privilege comes great responsibility. Meaningful service is encouraged and embedded in the experience of both adults and students at St. Francis of Assisi.

Franciscan education pursues wisdom. This virtue embodies what we strive to be at SFA: “Passionately Catholic and Academically Excellent.”  True wisdom is a meeting of the mind and heart. At St. Francis of Assisi, we pursue growth in knowledge to feed the mind while also pursuing faith and love to feed the soul.
